Daystar University is a Christian Based University that seeks to develop effective managers, professionals and scholars through the integration of Christian faith and holistic learning. The university begun in 1967 as Daystar Communication, set up by an American missionary DR. Donald K. Smith and an African journalist Motsoko Pheko. It was established to investigate and improve the techniques used in communicating Christianity and the Christian message. The idea was to create effective strategies in communication that would ensure it was more far-reaching and effective.

At the start, the unviversity set up short-term training courses so they could help church leaders gain the cross-culture communication techniques, knowledge and strategies that would assist them in being more effective. Following years of expansion, they became a fully-fledged university in 1989, and on-board from 1,000 to 2,000 students every year.

Daystar University is a non-profit higher learning institution with their main campus in Athi River and their second campus in Nairobi’s Valley Road. They provide academic programmes that are affordable and diverse to reach as many students’ region-wide. Through their academic division, they are continuously updating and upgrading their academic offering in line with the changing trends of the world. The university is renowned for having the best mass communication programmes with one of the most-equipped facilities that supports this area of study. All in all, they have 5 schools and 13 academic departments, namely; their School of Communication, their School of Arts and Humanity, their School of Science Engineering and Healthy, their School of Human and Social Science, and their School of Business and Economics. Their certificate courses cut across airline cabin crew training, counselling, computer engineer to law; to name a few.
