Established in 1991, Maseno University is one of Kenya’s seven public universities. Its name “Maseno” was crafted from a locally found tree that sat near where the university was built, called “Oseno” or “Oluseno”, which is the name of the tree in the local dialect of the region.
Following the merger of Maseno Government Training Institute (GTI) with Siriba Teacher’s Training College, that’s how Maseno College was born. 11 years later, it became the fully fledged university that it is today.

What makes it quite a unique landmark in the country, is that it’s the only university in the world to sit along the Equator (00). Set in Kisumu City, this higher learning institution has grown immensely to now have four campuses. With the ever expanding need for quality university education in the region, the campus has grown to offer a wide range of undergraduate and post-graduate programs across different disciplines. In serving to this demand, we set up an eCampus to provide access to our range of academic programmes, delivering high-level certificate, diploma and degree programmes. Lessons are delivered through an online platform and exams taken on-campus at the most convenient facility to a student.

Our university provides from diploma, undergraduate to post-graduate programmes across a wide range of faculties and schools, spanning from the School of Arts and Social Sciences, to the School of Education, to the School of Medicine through to the School of Environment and Earth Science, to name but a few.
