In response to a growing need for a graduate level theological institution in Kenya, the International Leadership University (ILU) was established in 1980 by the Campus Crusade for Christ (CCC) International with the mission to educate and train Christ-like visionary leaders to spearhead holistic transformation in Africa and the world. Through the years, the University has endeavoured to maintain a distinct emphasis on a balanced and integrated approach to academic excellence, character formation, field ministry orientation, and transformational leadership development and strives to always be a world-class institution by offering affordable and flexible Certificate, Diploma, Bachelor, Masters and PhD programmes led by passionate, knowledgeable, and experienced lecturers.
Situated five kilometres from Nairobi's city centre, in a quiet and serene neighbourhood on Mtito Andei Road, the International Leadership University provides a peaceful and conducive learning environment for students, so as to equip them for a life of learning, leadership, and service by integrating faith and education, and empowering graduates to excel and positively impact their world for Jesus Christ. In all programmes that the institution offers, emphasis is placed on keeping to their mission and values including dependence on God, passion for the Great Commission, moral integrity, passion for excellence and contextual relevance. For the past thirty eight years, the school has nurtured and equipped Christian leaders with a Biblical worldview to serve and lead in the Church and the world.
