The hospitality industry is among the fastest growing sectors in Kenya. Existing statistics reveal that up to 45% of the foreign exchange earnings in Kenya come from the hospitality sector. The substantial growth of the hospitality activities in Kenya clearly confirms the sector as one of leading economic sectors. Generally, the performance of the hospitality and related sectors is correlated with well-trained and highly-qualified staff that is able to provide good and quality customer services and have the ability to manage situations effectively.
Over the years, training in hotel and hospitality in Kenya has mainly concentrated on the operational aspects of the industry with the highest qualification being at Masters level. However, Masters level training is insufficient in providing strong grounding in theory, research and analytical aspects of an accomplished scholar and practitioner. Hence, this Doctoral programme in Hospitality Management aims at producing a human resource with expertise in hospitality theory, research, policy issues and and practical application in hospitality management; and hospitality curriculum development and delivery. The programme incorporates courses that will help produce competent educators, researchers and practitioners for successful careers in higher education institutions, hospitality consulting firms, government and non-governmental agencies requiring strong research skills and broad-based study skills.

To enable students to acquire theoretical and practical application of research in hospitality management.
