Ph.D. (Agricultural and Rural Innovation)

Egerton University

Important info

There is acute shortage of professionals with interdisciplinary orientation and requisite skills to influence change in rural communities. Most universities in the East Africa region can adequately train manpower up to Masters‟ level, but lack comparative capacities to train enough and competitive graduates at PhD level. The ARIS programme will advance the needed cross-cutting competencies in individuals with masters‟ level disciplinary grounding and experience and integrate these at PhD level. The need to develop regional capacity for PhD training is further justified by the “brain drain” complex associated with overseas PhD training. The ARIS programme aims to train professionals capable of influencing policy, planning and implementation of ARD initiatives based on contextual and scientific evidence. The regional approach will address the common challenges through shared vision, networking, and production of regional public goods at lower transaction costs.
