Additionally, there should be a continuous examination of sustainability in agricultural production and use of the natural resources. The Ph.D. program in Agricultural Extension intends to prepare researchers and philosophers in the discipline of agricultural extension. The programme is by research and thesis. The graduates of the programme are prepared to assume responsibilities in research, advisory and extension services, consultancy, management and university teaching.

Which are the objectives of the course?

The graduates of the Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Agricultural Extension should be able to:
i) Plan and conduct research in agricultural education, agriculture, rural development and agricultural communications.
ii) Plan and teach agriculture, agricultural extension and communications programmes.
iii) Monitor and evaluate agricultural programmes
iv) Plan and manage consultancies in agriculture, agricultural extension and rural development.
v) Manage educational and agricultural organizations.

What are the admission criteria?

The common Egerton University rules and regulations for admission into the Doctor of Philosophy Programme shall apply. Applicants for the Doctor of Philosophy programme in Agricultural Extension shall be required to have a Master of Science degree in Agricultural Education and Extension or its equivalent. Applicants for the Doctor of Philosophy programme in Agricultural Extension shall be required to present a research project proposal acceptable to the Department of Agricultural Education and Extension.
