ABOUT EGERTON UNIVERSITY
Started as a Farm School in 1939, Egerton University grew to become an Agricultural College in the 50s’ offering diploma programmes. In 1987, it was finally established as a university, becoming one of Kenya’s first and oldest institutions of higher education. Before Chuka, Kisii and Laikipia Universities, become full-fledged Universities, they were all former constituent Colleges of Egerton University. They pride themselves as being pioneers in advancing and enhancing access to higher education in the country.
As a student of Egerton University, one can study at any of their three campuses or campus college. They offer a diverse range of programmes at diploma, undergraduate and post-graduate level; from Arts, Social Sciences, Commerce, Education, Community Studies, Engineering and Technology, Science, Environment and Resource Development, Veterinary Medicine and Surgery among others. As a university, they continue to onboard more and more advanced academic programmes while also undertaking a series of impactful research programmes such as their Lake Nakuru Research project, their Horticultural Technology Experimental Project, their Policy Analysis Matrix (PAM) project amongst the hundreds they take on across the years.
The institution has established a number of local and international partnerships in research, teaching and industry and continue to actively participate in globally academic ventures. As a student, one will have access to this diverse pool of resources and knowledge, and tap into world-level academic opportunities that cannot be found in other higher learning institutions. The institution provides financial assistance to students who need it through their various sponsorships, work study programmes and vocational placements that make education affordable and accessible for all. They have a diverse pool of non-academic activities that keep their students all-roundedly busy and productive from outdoor and indoor campus sports, to student union and welfare societies and diverse clubs. For international students, the university takes pride in ensuring their learning experience is wholesomely balanced, with their student welfare body providing cultural excursions and trips.
