ABOUT KENYA MEDICAL TRAINING COLLEGE (KMTC)
A public mid-level health training institution, the Kenya Medical Training College was set up under the Ministry of Medical Services to provide health-related courses to individuals in Kenya and the region at large. The higher learning institution is state-owned and was established in 1927 with the responsibility of educating the region with various skills that were centered around health disciplines, that would transform the local and global region. Since then to date, their academic strategies continue to be based off the Ministry of Health’s sector agenda, which derives its directives from the national agenda. This ensures as Kenya Medical Training College, their students are equipped with the medical standards, knowhow and skills that are required in the market.
Their college has expanded from its humble beginnings to reach every corner of the country, having 65 constituent colleges spanning across the country. They offer an extensive range of health courses from certificate to diploma to higher diploma level. Their institutions provide students with a wide range of over 50 modern-day health courses, that cut across; Community Oral Health, Health Education, Environmental Health, Community Nutrition, Health Information and Records, Clinical Medicine, Dental Technology, Medical Imaging Science, Pharmacy and Optometry Technology. In conjunction with the University of Nairobi, they also provide their students with degree courses in Pharmacy, Nursing, Medical Laboratory Science, Nutrition, and Clinical Medicine. Additionally, in collaboration with the Cardiff Metropolitan University of the United Kingdom, KMTC provides an Environmental Science degree for their students.
Their main campus resides in Nairobi along former Mbagathi Road, strategically positioned opposite Kenyatta Hospital. Through such and other likeminded medical partnerships, they are able to provide their students with hands-on medical training and placement. They’ve also accommodated for students who require off-campus accessibility to their academic programmes and resources; providing e-learning programmes and an extensive online information repository.
In line with making their medical academic offering accessible to Kenyans and students across the region, KMTC has structured their academic fees to be affordable to as many interested soon-to-be medical practitioners. They’ve also partnered with a high number of private and public organisations to provide a wide range of financial aid programmes to support needy students in their health career pursuits. Their scholarships range from full medical scholarships to partial, and are based on academic merit. These scholarships are available every year.
As a high-ranking, medical training college in Kenya, they have year on year provided the region with the most knowledgeable and equipped medical professionals. They have achieved this through extensive research and intensive training as they move towards advancing the country and the region at large with the most progressive, high-level medical services required.
