Mount Kenya University’s Master of Science in Chemistry is two years, full-time, on-campus degree that is offered by the Department of Physical Sciences, under the aegis of the School of Pure and Applied Sciences. The course provides advanced training to students in analysing and taking up research in the field of pharmaceutical and biotechnology.
The Master of Science in Chemistry programme is designed to provide real-world situations full of various techniques of teaching, research, knowledge, skills, attitudes, and experiences that prepare students to meet challenges pertaining to the study of Chemistry. The programme uses a multidisciplinary approach and looks into concepts such as Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry of Biomolecules, Polymer Science and Green Chemistry.
After successful completion of the course, the learners will be able to take up roles in academic institutions, inter-governmental organizations, government ministries and non-governmental organizations. Graduates of Master of Science in Chemistry go on to become Research Officers, Research Scientists, Quality control chemists and Chemists. Strong ethical principles, good interpersonal communication values and efficient trained teamwork are some of the expected outcomes of learning this course.
